College Background

The College of Information and Communication Technologies (CoICT) is among the colleges of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) in Tanzania. It was established on 27th January, 2011 to address the increasing demand of ICT experts in the country by strengthening the University’s teaching, research and public service in the ICT-related disciplines through a more efficient utilization of the available human and physical resources. The College is located at Kijitonyama Campus along Alli Hassan Mwinyi road about five kilometers from the UDSM Main campus (Mwaimu Nyerere Campus).

The College offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs that stress interactions between lecturers and students who are committed to academic excellence. The College offers curricula that integrate scientific, ICT and engineering principles, practical laboratory and computer work, engineering design experiences culminating into projects by applying Problem Based learning approach to solve existing community challenges.

The College offers 1 certificate programme, 1 diploma programme, 6 undergraduate programmes, 1 postgraduate diploma programmes, 7 Master of Science programmes and PhD programmes in ICT related areas hosted in two Departments namely:

  • Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE)
  • Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ETE)

Currently CoICT is home to 116 academic, technical and administrative staff members and more than 1,200 students. Our mission is to ensure that we provide our staff and students an excellent teaching and learning environment to prepare our next generation of scientists, innovators, engineers and experts that will move our country and the region forward.

The College houses The Centre for Virtual Learning (CVL) which is a unit within CoICT responsible for providing technical support to all UDSM academic units in the design and provision of ICT-mediated distance learning programmes.

The College has an incubator unit known as University of Dar es Salaam Information and Communication Technology Incubator (UDICTI) which is a unit under the College with main objective of nurturing UDSM students who wish to establish their own ICT related businesses by develop their ideas into sustainable businesses done by offering incubation training.
