Ready for the World: UNDP Tanzania Partners with Higher Learning Institutions for Market-Ready Graduates
Building Stronger Pathways from Education to Opportunity
On 29 May 2026, UNDP Tanzania convened universities, innovation leaders, development partners, students, and private sector stakeholders at Johari Rotana Hotel in Dar es Salaam for the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with partner Higher Learning Institutions (HLIs).
The event marked a significant step in strengthening collaboration between academia and the development ecosystem to equip young Tanzanians with the competencies, networks, and opportunities needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving labour market.
While Tanzania produces nearly 60,000 graduates annually, many young people continue to face challenges transitioning from academic achievement to workplace readiness. Through these partnerships, UNDP Tanzania and participating institutions are formalising a long-standing collaboration focused on bridging this gap through structured and sustainable engagement.
Among the institutions represented at the ceremony was the University of Dar es Salaam through the College of Information and Communication Technologies (CoICT), reaffirming the institution’s commitment to innovation, digital transformation, and youth talent development.
The partnerships will support initiatives in:
- Youth talent and skills development
- Competency-based learning and curriculum enhancement
- Innovation and entrepreneurship
- Internship and fellowship opportunities
- Applied research and problem-solving
- Private sector engagement and job matching
A key highlight of the event was the introduction of the UNDP Young Talent Development Program, designed to connect students and graduates with practical career pathways, mentorship, leadership opportunities, and professional exposure.
The ceremony also featured innovation exhibitions and fireside conversations with student founders and university innovation hub managers, showcasing the creativity and potential of Tanzania’s young innovators.
Through this collaboration, UNDP Tanzania and partner universities reaffirm a shared commitment to developing graduates who are not only academically qualified, but ready to contribute, lead, and shape Tanzania’s future
